We’re heading to Cardiff this autumn for the AGI Cymru Annual Conference 2026. This will be held at the Glamorgan Cricket Ground at Sophia Gardens on 20 October.
This year’s theme, ‘Engaging with the Outdoors’, is a perfect fit for the geospatial community. We’ll be exploring how location data and technology help us manage, access, and celebrate the incredible Welsh landscape. From agriculture and tourism to urban green spaces, geospatial innovation is at the heart of how we interact with the world around us.
Why this event matters for Wales
The outdoor activity sector is a vital part of the Welsh economy. In 2023, a Miller Research study found that it contributes £1.6 billion annually and supports over 31,000 jobs. Beyond the economic impact, access to the outdoors is essential for our mental and physical well-being.
The conference will include contributions from the Office of National Statistics on measuring childhood access to greenspace and from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority on the Tirlun outdoors schools platform.
