Building an inclusive workplace is a continuous journey. Over the years, we’ve taken various steps to make Astun a welcoming and supportive workplace for everyone, from DEI training and workstation assessments to free counselling and flexible working arrangements. Achieving Disability Confident Committed Employer status is our latest step in our mission to make Astun a place where great tech is built by diverse teams.
What does being Disability Confident mean?
Disability Confident is a UK government scheme designed to help employers attract, recruit, and retain disabled people and individuals with long-term health conditions.
Becoming a Disability Confident Committed Employer isn’t just a badge on our website; it’s a set of active commitments integrated directly into how we recruit, onboard, and support our people.
As part of our 3-year commitment, we have pledged to:
- Ensure accessible recruitment: Keep our hiring processes inclusive, transparent, and barrier-free.
- Guaranteed interview scheme: Offer interviews to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role.
- Promote opportunities: Proactively communicate and advertise our vacancies across accessible channels.
- Provide reasonable adjustments: Anticipate and make workplace adjustments so everyone can perform at their best.
- Support existing staff: Provide dedicated support to team members who acquire a disability or long-term health condition, ensuring they can stay in work seamlessly.
- Drive positive change: Take proactive steps to make a tangible difference for disabled people in the tech and geospatial sector.
You can find out more about the scheme at www.gov.uk/disability-confident.
Reflecting on their experience, one team member living with a long-term health condition shared: “Astun has consistently been supportive of my needs. Thanks to the flexibility offered by Mike and the rest of the team, I’ve been able to continue growing in my career. Knowing that we’re officially committing to this standard gives me confidence that others in similar situations will get the same support.”
